Engine Cooling System

The engine cooling system needs to be in good working order during both hot and cold driving conditions. If the cooling system fails, it will overheat the engine, leading to many serious issues.

An engine cooling system uses:

  • coolant fluid

  • pipes

  • valves

  • radiator

  • expansion tank

These keep the engine running at its optimal operating temperature.

The system works by circulating water or other coolant through channels in the engine block and cylinder head to carry away excessive heat. The coolant then passes through a radiator, which consists of many small tubes equipped with a honeycomb of fins that rapidly radiate heat.
